Bricklayers & Allied
Craftworkers Local 13

Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 13

Bricklayers build and maintain walls, facades, arches, and other structures using brick, block, or stone on residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Refractory bricklayers work in high-heat environments like power plants and steel mills, installing heat-resistant materials to line furnaces, kilns, and other equipment. Tile setters install ceramic, stone, and glass tile on floors, walls, countertops, pools, and more. Both trades may work indoors or outdoors, sometimes using scaffolding for elevated or intricate installations.

Apprenticeship Program

Northern Nevada offers two apprenticeship programs: bricklaying and tile setting. Both programs typically take 3 years, requiring 144 hours of classroom instruction and 1,500 hours of on-the-job training annually. Classes are typically held in the evenings. While the apprenticeship program is offered at no cost, apprentices are responsible for book fees, start-up tools (~$70), union dues (~$23/month), and a one-time initiation fee ($100).
